Data revisions

The release today includes some data revisions by Statistics New Zealand (due to seasonal adjustment methodology update). These revisions cover quarters back to the September 2017 quarter.

The data: coverage, periodicity and timeliness
Coverage characteristics
Retail trade statistics measure the sales of a wide range of businesses that provide household and personal goods and services.
Final consumption expenditure from the national accounts comprises expenditure by households, private non-profits, central and local government.
Periodicity
Quarterly
Timeliness
We publish retail trade statistics around seven weeks after the end of the reference quarter.
We publish gross domestic product around three months after the end of the reference quarter.

The statistics release calendar provides a long-term plan of scheduled releases. We update and release the calendar on the first working day of the month.

We generally publish revisions when we update and release a table. New or revised data is in bold font.

Retail trade
Sales
The value sales (excluding GST) in the retail trade sector.
Volumes
Retail sales volumes expressed in September 2010 quarter prices. This is a constant price estimate that removes movement caused by price changes.
Consumption
Private
Private final consumption expenditure comprises household expenditure or outlays on consumer goods and services, and the final consumption expenditure on non-capital items of private non-profit institutions serving households.
General government
Government final consumption expenditure is the value of goods and services provided by the government sector for current consumption by the community. It includes both central and local government.
