Statistical series in this section include exchange rates and trade weighted index, wholesale interest rates, and retail interest rates on lending and deposits.

We have statistical series on new residential mortgage standard and special interest rates, and new interest bearing call savings account, term deposit and term PIE deposits interest rates.

Exchange rates and the Trade Weighted Index (B1)

This data monitors the currency exchange rate of the New Zealand dollar (NZD) compared to various major international currencies. The Trade Weighted Index (TWI) measures the value of the NZD against the currencies of New Zealand's major trading partners.

Wholesale interest rates (B2)

This data tracks the cost of borrowing in New Zealand by showing the wholesale interest rates quoted in New Zealand markets. Wholesale interest rates are rates which apply to large institutions, rather than individual borrowers.

Retail interest rates on lending and deposits (B3)

This data tracks all the interest rates quoted by banks in New Zealand on loans and deposits.

Foreign exchange turnover (B4)

This data provides information about the average daily foreign exchange transactions. This can be used as a measure of market activity and also provide a rough proxy for market liquidity.

Yields on loans (B6)

This data shows the interest income earned by banks as a percentage of the value of their loans, including fixed and floating rate loans.

Costs of deposits (B7)

This data shows the interest expenses paid by banks as a percentage of the value of their customer deposits, including savings (call) accounts and term deposits.

Trade Weighted Index weights and trade volumes (B10)

This data records the changes in the weights of different currencies in the Trade Weighted Index over time and provides detail on trading volumes.

Trade Weighted Index historical weights (B13)

This data records the changes in the weights of different currencies in the Trade Weighted Index over time.

New residential mortgage standard interest rates (B20)

This data tracks the average mortgage rates advertised by banks in New Zealand. These are the 'standard' rates offered to new borrowers. Any special discounts are excluded from this statistic.

New residential mortgage special interest rates (B21)

This data tracks the special mortgage rates advertised by banks in New Zealand. Special rates are offered to borrowers who meet certain conditions specified by the bank, and are lower than the standard rates.

New interest-bearing call savings account interest rates (B25)

This data tracks the interest rates offered by New Zealand banks on call savings accounts.

New interest-bearing term deposit interest rates (B26)

This data tracks the interest rates offered by banks in New Zealand on term deposit savings accounts.

New interest-bearing term Portfolio Investment Entity (PIE) deposit interest rates (B27)

This data tracks the interest rates offered on deposits by Portfolio Investment Entities (PIEs) in New Zealand.

New residential mortgage weighted average interest rates (B30)

The data collection covers selected new residential mortgage weighted average interest rates in the reporting month. The purpose of this collection is to better understand the provision and pricing of credit in the economy.
