Publication of Weighted Medians

From the December 2025 quarter onwards, the results from the Tara-ā-Umanga Business Expectations Survey includes the publication of weighted medians. These are presented for all variables and time horizons and are available by industry, business size and at the total economy level.
The initial publication of weighted medians includes results from previous survey rounds from the September 2024 quarter onwards, consistent with our main time series.
The weighted median results are made available in the M15 data file. A description of the methodology used to calculate the weighted median series is available below in the Background notes.
Publication of Pilot Data

The publication of results from the Tara-ā-Umanga Business Expectations Survey includes results from previous survey rounds for the September 2024, December 2024, and March 2025 quarters which correspond to the second, third, and fourth pilots of the development phase of the survey, respectively.
We have not included results from the first pilot in the main time series due to the small sample size relative to subsequent pilots and changes to the design strata implemented from the second pilot onwards to include coverage of primary industries. Results from the first pilot are available on the survey design and development page. The published results may differ from results previously referenced in the pilot reports due to the finalisation of our methodology.
New Data File Format
To facilitate the publication of detailed results by industry and business size, along with common measures of statistical uncertainty, we are using a new file format for the M15 data file. This intentionally differs from the file format of our other statistical releases. A description of the variables published in the M15 data file is available below in the Background notes.
