Front
- The front of the $10 note has a portrait of Kate Sheppard. She was one of the most influential leaders in the campaign to give women the right to vote in New Zealand.
- In 1893 New Zealand became the first country in the world to give women the right to vote. Kate Sheppard has featured on the $10 note since 1993, which marked 100 years since the bill was passed.
- Next to Kate Sheppard is the camellia japonica — a symbol of the fight for the vote by New Zealand women.

- The whio (blue duck) is on the back of the $10 note.
- Other design features include the tukutuku purapura whetu, and New Zealand fauna: kiokio (blechnum novae-zelandiae) and pineapple scrub (dracophyllum menziesii).
