Our differences enable us

Diversity and inclusion are important to us. We embrace diversity of thought, people, culture and backgrounds. Our differences seed our innovation and help us deliver our best work, reflective of the needs of our society.

We are pursuing our diversity and inclusion goals with great care and energy. We are building them into everything we do.

We embrace diversity – our differences enable our success

As New Zealand’s central bank, having a diverse and inclusive workforce is key. We want all our people to feel valued, included and respected, so they can bring their authentic selves to work. Our differences allow us to each develop our awareness, sensitivity and understanding of others.

Understanding our various communities and their needs is critical to our business and being effective.

Gender and pay equity and women in leadership are important to us too. We are deeply committed to non-biased and non-discriminatory practices across our organisation.

We welcome and value knowledge of Te Ao Māori, Tikanga and Te Tiriti to help us integrate and embed these into our organisational culture and bring to life our Te Ao Māori strategy.

We have a number of social and professional employee-led networks and interest groups that our people can join, including a Diversity and Inclusion Group and a Women in Leadership Network.

Fezeela: It's not only the right thing to do, but it's also the smart thing to do. All the research shows us that diversity in leadership, including gender diversity, helps enhance performance for organisations across many different levels in terms of risk management, innovation, decision making, retention, engagement, all those benefits that you get.

Vanessa: I think for me, it's really around just the prominence of this and the importance of this to the bank, recognising where we're at as a society and putting some direct effort into you know, elevating the profile, creating networks amongst women.

Amber: I applied to be part of the program because I had applied for a few senior jobs, people, leadership jobs, and been passed over for them because I didn't have people leadership experience. I was looking for another avenue that would give me a stepping stone between where I was and where I could go in my next career moves.

Kate: I think that the opportunity to help someone at the point in their career when they're way-finding and figuring out what's their next step is an incredible privilege.

Diana: For me, Kōkako has been life changing. I really enjoyed being able to connect with other women around the bank, you know, in. this actually quite close setting, find out about their goals and hopes as well. That's just not an opportunity that comes up very often.

So come join us if you’re wanting that something more
