About the event

Professor Prasanna Gai will be giving a talk called Shipping lanes and inflation-at-risk: Hub shocks and optimal monetary policy.

Recent events in the Middle East highlight how inflation risks can come from fragile supply chains, not just strong demand. In this talk, Professor Prasanna Gai will explore how disruptions to energy and shipping hubs can push costs up across the economy and increase the risk of prolonged or extreme inflation. He explains why central banks need to look beyond average forecasts and pay close attention when inflation pressures become widespread and move together.
