The Monetary Policy Remit and 2% inflation

Governor Adrian Orr will deliver a keynote speech at the New Zealand Economics Forum hosted by the University of Waikato.

Past Event
Friday, 16 February 2024 to Friday, 16 February 2024
7:40 am - 8:40 am

About the speech

Mr Orr will speak about the changing drivers of inflation over the past couple of years and the shift from transitory to more stubborn underlying inflation. He will also discuss why – despite these challenging years – we continue to believe that a flexible inflation target centred on 2% still makes sense.

Mr Orr will also talk about the year ahead for the Reserve Bank. As a full-service central bank, we have a wide mandate that spans monetary policy, financial stability, cash operations, and financial markets infrastructure. Ensuring we achieve our mandate is important for New Zealand’s long-term prosperity and economic wellbeing, and we have a full agenda ahead of us to ensure we do so.

About the forum

The forum will set the scene for the new Government, offering policy insights and robust commentary on the most pressing and complex issues facing our country today.
