Statements of approaches
The Bank’s approach to prudential supervision and regulatory policy-making are described in the Statements of policy-making, supervisory and enforcement approaches.
The purpose of the Statement of policy-making approach is to set out an accessible up-to-date summary of the Reserve Bank's regulatory policy-making processes.
The purposes for which the Reserve Bank regulates and/or supervises regulated entities are set out in the empowering Acts. In relation to all regulated entities, the Reserve Bank carries out its functions for the purpose of promoting the maintenance of a sound and efficient financial system.
In the event of identified non-compliance, the Reserve Bank has the discretion to take enforcement action and to decide what enforcement action to take. This discretion is exercised for the purposes of promoting the maintenance of a sound and efficient financial system.
The Reserve Bank’s Relationship Charter is a step towards achieving the best “regulator-regulated” relationships possible.
