Uploading a file to Box File Transfer Service

How to upload a file into Box File Transfer Service.

It’s easy to upload one or more files into a Box folder by dragging and dropping, or by clicking New+.

Note that some folders in Box may have “Auto” included in the folder name. These folders have automation in the background to process the files automatically out of Box into the RBNZ environment. This will mean a file you have uploaded may disappear within in a few minutes.

How to upload a file via drag and drop

  1. First open the folder you wish to upload the file/s into.
  2. Drag and drop your file/s from your computer onto the Box window
  3. The Upload progress bar will appear at the bottom of your screen
  4. When the upload is complete a green success message will display at the top of your screen and the file/s will appear in the Box folder
  5. For each file uploaded, an email notification will be sent to the people with access to this folder.

If you would prefer to minimise the number of notification emails sent out (one notification per file), you can compress multiple files into a Zip file and upload the Zip file into Box File Transfer Service.

How to upload a file via New +

  1. First open the folder you wish to upload the file/s into
  2. Click the New + button and select File Upload.
    1. While it is possible to create new folders from the New + button, we ask that you do not do so, as all our folders are managed centrally. Any folders created in this way will be removed by Box service admins. If a new folder is required, please ask for this via a service request.
  3. A File explorer window will open
  4. Navigate to the location of the file/s on your computer and click on the file/s to select
  5. Click Open

  6. The Upload progress bar will appear at the bottom of your screen
  7. When the upload is complete a green success message will display at the top of your screen and the file/s will appear in the Box folder
  8. For each file uploaded, an email notification will be sent to the people with access to this folder.

If you would prefer to minimise the number of notification emails sent out (one notification per file), you can compress multiple files into a Zip file and upload the Zip file into Box File Transfer Service.

How to drag and drop

  1. First, decide which file/s you want to upload into Box and open that folder on your computer
  2. Next, decide which folder in Box you want to upload them into and open that folder in Box
  3. Arrange these folders so that you can see them both at the same time. This can be on one screen, or different screens
  4. Start in the folder you want to move files from. Holding down the Ctrl key on your keyboard, use your mouse to click on each file you wish to move. Once you have selected all the files you want to move, let go of the Ctrl key
  5. Selected one to many? Don’t worry, just hold down that Ctrl key and click on the file again. It will un-select
  6. Use your mouse to click on one of the selected file/s. Don’t let go, hold the mouse button down
  7. Use your mouse to “Drag” the file/s over to the Box folder you want to move them into and lift your finger off the mouse button! The files will “Drop” into the Box folder.
