Data is in millions of New Zealand dollars.

The following data is obtained from Financial Statements of the Government of New Zealand:

(a) Monthly Government revenue.

(b) Monthly Government expenses.

(c) Net monthly SOEs (State Owned Enterprises) and Crown entities balance.

(d) Monthly Government operating balance.

Data is available on our website from the 1989/90 financial year. This was the first year that New Zealand had a financial year ending in June. Data prior to this is available from the RBNZ.

Periodicity

Monthly.

Timeliness

On the fifth working day of the month to our website, approximately two months after the relevant month.

Advance release calendar

The “Advance Release Calendar” is updated and released each Friday on the website. This is a long-term plan of scheduled releases.

Dissemination of terms and conditions under which official statistics are produced, including confidentiality of individual responses

Although there is no law that requires the RBNZ to compile and publish data on the Deficit Before Borrowing, the data are disseminated by the RBNZ as a service to the public.

The series were replaced in 1994/95 with accrual-based financial statements that follow “Generally Accepted Accounting Practice”.
