On October 1, 2009, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) discontinued publication of the monthly wholesale New Zealand government securities on issue data in table D11. The RBNZ has been reproducing the tables published by the Debt Management Office (DMO) and will provide a link to the DMO site for these data as a service to data users. The Data: Coverage, Periodicity, and Timeliness |

Coverage characteristics |
Data volumes are shown in millions of New Zealand dollars and interest rates are New Zealand interest rates. The data recorded on the Government Bond sheet are: (a) Date first issued: The month and year in which the bond was first offered for tender. (b) Loan Prefix: Series identification attached by the register of the bond. (c) Coupon: The interest payment to be made on the bond, normally semi-annually for the bonds and quarterly for the Index Linked Bond. (d) Maturity: The date on which the bond will mature. (e) Total Amt Outstanding (incl RB + EQC): The total amount of bonds issued through tenders to the financial markets, and directly to RBNZ and Earthquake Commission (EQC). (f) RBNZ: Total bonds issued to the RBNZ. These bonds do not form part of the secondary markets. (g) EQC: Total bonds issued to EQC. These bonds do not form part of the secondary markets. (h) Amount in market: The amount of bonds available in the secondary market. The secondary market is made up of the total bonds issued less the bonds issued to RBNZ and EQC. The data recorded on the Treasury Bill sheet are: (i) Maturity: The date on which the Treasury bills will mature. (j) Amount in market: The amount of bonds available in the secondary market. Any Treasury bills held by the RBNZ and EQC are not included in this amount. A summary is provided of the transactions that have occurred since the previous month for the Government bonds. These include bonds sold in tender to the market, the RBNZ and EQC. Bonds repurchased by the RBNZ and any bonds that may have matured. Data is available on our website from January 2000 through August 2009. Data available on the NZ DMO website also contain information on treasury bill holdings of the RBNZ, EQC, and New Zealand Future Fund. |

The securities on issue are released via electronic media as soon as possible after the end of the month. Our website is updated on the fifth working day of the month after the end of the relevant month. |

Although there is no law that requires the RBNZ to compile and publish historical data on NZ Government Securities on Issue, the data are disseminated by the RBNZ as a service to the public. |

Provisional data are italicised. Data are deemed provisional when a series is under review. New data, or revised data, are in bold font. Revisions are generally published when the table is next due to be updated and released. Should revisions need to be made more promptly, a note is posted on the website under "Revisions to Tables". Any major changes in methodology are posted on the website as a note. |
