Special Note: Changes to Bank Disclosure Tables (or G Tables)

In November 2010 the Reserve Bank announced changes to the Orders in Council (OIC) that prescribe what registered banks in New Zealand must disclose to the public. The new OICs became effective on 31 March 2011 and banks have until September 2011 to adopt them. To date 12 of the 20 banks have published on the basis of the new OICs.

The new OICs have resulted in changes to our Bank Disclosure Tables (or G Tables). This note describes the changes.

Table G1

(Locally incorporated

banks)

  • The table name has changed to Key information on locally incorporated banks
  • Data is now sourced from the Disclosure Statement instead of the Key Information Summary
  • Peak credit exposures to bank and non-bank counterparties now exclude bank exposures with credit ratings of A- or above
  • Peak connected exposures will be removed from the quarterly table once all banks have adopted the new OICs

Table G2

(Overseas incorporated

Banks)

  • The table name has changed to Key information on overseas incorporated banks
  • Data is now sourced from the Disclosure Statement instead of the Key Information Summary
  • Peak credit exposures to bank and non-bank counterparties have been removed from the table

The Reserve Bank is currently reviewing all of the Bank disclosure tables and will introduce improvements later this year. If you have any comments or suggestions on these tables please contact stats-info@rbnz.govt.nz.
