The Reserve Bank has both an oversight and operational role in the payment system in New Zealand.
The operational activities include the provision of currency and a range of payment and settlement services. In particular, the Reserve Bank operates:
- Exchange Settlement Account System (ESAS) which is a banking service for institutions that need to make regular high-value payments with each other. All the current account holders are banks.
- Austraclear New Zealand System which provides the financial markets with clearing and settlement services for high-value debt securities and equities.
Features
The RTGS Bulletin (previously The NZCSD Flyer) provides a series of brief notes about current matters of interest to both Registry customers and Austraclear members.
