The new notes will be released progressively by denomination. The new $5 and $10 banknotes were released into public circulation during October 2015 and the $20, $50 and $100s will start to circulate from mid-May 2016.
The new notes are the same size and denominations as the current notes, and they continue to be made of flexible polymer. The themes of the notes remain the same, with the same respected New Zealanders, the Queen, and the flora and fauna remaining central to the designs.
Both sets of banknotes, that is, Series 6 and Series 7 (Brighter Money) will co-circulate and both sets will be legal tender.
