Summer recruitmentApplications
for 2008/09 close on Wednesday 23 April 2008
The Reserve Bank offers a number of summer positions each year to Economics,
Banking or Finance students who usually have one year of an Honours or Masters
degree to complete.
What we’re looking for
Ideally you’ll be interested in Macroeconomics, Monetary Economics,
Finance, Applied Econometrics, International Economics or Public Economics.
Curious, analytical and a critical thinker, you’ll be a great team player,
have strong written and oral English and have superb interpersonal and
communication skills.
As an equal opportunities employer we welcome applications form International
Students, provided you are legally entitled to work in New Zealand full
time.
Please note summer positions are only open to students studying at a New
Zealand University.
Details
Summer students work at the Bank over the summer holidays from around mid
November until mid February.
Students assigned to work in our Economics Department will assist with
analysis and research related to the department’s main functions in
particular advice on the stance of and framework for monetary policy.
Or there’s the Financial Markets Department, which conducts the
Bank's business in the financial markets and reports on the stability
of the financial system. This includes monitoring and analysing domestic
and international financial markets, managing New Zealand's foreign
reserves by trading in offshore financial markets, dealing in
the domestic markets to make sure that there is sufficient
liquidity floating around the NZ banking system, working to ensure that the
risks arising from department's operations are managed appropriately, or
contributing to the Bank's Financial Stability Report.
The Prudential Supervision Department is involved with undertaking research
and assisting to develop New Zealand's banking and non-bank deposit
taking supervisory framework or advising on the structure, regulation and
operation of the New Zealand financial system.
The Reserve Bank takes a different approach from the usual campus
presentations. Instead we will be visiting universities in March to have an
informal chat with 3rd and 4th year students over coffee.
Following the application closing date, we interview the short listed
applicants on campus.
Employment offers for summer positions are normally made in June after the
campus interviews in May.
