Rachel Holden

background

I spent five years at Victoria University doing a Bachelor of Science in Statistics and Mathematics, and a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) in Economics. During my study I spent time working at a small consulting firm and tutoring Economics. I started at the Bank in 2003.

personal interests, goals

I enjoy reading, walking and hanging out with friends.

what attracted you to the Bank?

I wanted to work somewhere where I could apply what I had learnt at University. I knew that the Bank would be such a place and it also had a very good reputation.

experience/achievements at the Bank

I spent my first year at the Bank in the Liquidity Management team, where I learnt a vast deal about financial markets and the Bank's open market operations. I then moved into the Forecasting team, where I have been responsible for forecasting residential investment, consumption, business investment and CPI. This has given me a greater understanding of how different sectors of the economy interact and what role monetary policy plays. While in the Forecasting team I have presented to the Monetary Policy Committee and been responsible for writing part of the Monetary Policy Statement.

During my time at the Bank I have had the opportunity to go on an 8 day Outward Bound course, be the secretary for the Monetary Policy Committee, and interview students applying for a Reserve Bank scholarship.

future aspirations

I don't have a big plan for my career, but I would like to try new things and develop different skills. I would also like to see more of the world and New Zealand.
