Financial markets operations


Domestic Markets

The Reserve Bank's Domestic Markets section is responsible for implementing monetary policy. It forecasts both the Crown's and the Reserve Bank's liquidity flows, conducts daily Open Market Operations (OMO), including FX swaps and repurchase transactions, and provides standby facilities for cash and government bonds.

Foreign reserves

The Reserve Bank's Foreign Reserves section is responsible for managing the Bank's foreign reserves portfolio and undertaking foreign exchange intervention consistent with a Governor's or Minister of Finance's Mandate issued from time to time.

Information on Government securities

Information on the issuance of New Zealand Government securities can be found on the New Zealand Debt Management Office's website: http://www.nzdmo.govt.nz.

The Bank publishes results of New Zealand Government securities tenders held by the New Zealand Debt Management Office. The Reserve Bank also conducts two surveys on behalf of the Crown covering the weekly turnover of Government bonds in the secondary market and the monthly survey of New Zealand Government Securities held for non-residents.

Information on Government-guaranteed securities

The Reserve Bank wrote to all registered banks on 17 December 2008 to give advice on the appropriate treatment, under the Reserve Bank's capital adequacy framework, of securities guaranteed under the Crown wholesale funding guarantee scheme.
