Regional finals

Approximately 10 teams from each region will be chosen to go forward to the regional finals in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. This is where you will present your decision to the judges.

Due to time constraints the Bank reserves the right to restrict the number of teams progressing to the presentation stage. If a large number of teams enter, the Reserve Bank will evaluate the written submissions and select an undetermined number of teams based on merit.

You will be told whether or not your team has made the regional finals on 23 June 2008. Regional finals begin on 4 August 2008, so this allows plenty of time for schools to arrange travel, if required.

You are only required to be present during your team’s presentation, which will take approximately 30 minutes – 10 minute presentation and 20 minutes of questions and discussion with judges. Please arrive at the venue at least 15 minutes before you are due to present.

Presentations will be undertaken in a closed room at your regional venue. You are welcome to bring your whole class to watch the presentation, but only the team members presenting may speak. Otherwise, the only people in the presentation room during the presentation are the judges, Amy Stapleton, who manages this competition for the Reserve Bank, and your accompanying teacher.

All teams competing at the regional finals will receive a report with feedback on their written submission, oral presentation and performance during the question and answer session. Teams will also be awarded certificates of achievement, merit or distinction.

Judges’ decisions are final. Regional winning teams will be announced on the Monetary Policy Challenge website, or you can ring the Reserve Bank's Communications Department on 04 471 3733 to find out the winner.

Two judges will adjudicate the regional competitions.

Regional winners will travel to the Reserve Bank in Wellington to compete in the national final on Thursday 21 August 2008.
