Mike Hannah

The Communications Department is responsible for developing strategies for the Bank’s key stakeholder relationships; issues management; production of the Bank’s publications; editorial management of its website; and education initiatives.
Mike rejoined the Bank in 2005 after working in both the public and private sectors in a variety of roles supporting the development of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). He first joined the Bank in 1991 as Communications Manager after 14 years in economic and political journalism.
His most recent positions include:
- Key Relationships Group Manager – New Zealand Trade and Enterprise
- Board Secretary, Manager Government Relations and Policy – Trade NZ
- Strategic Development Manager – Trade NZ
- Chief Executive and company Director – Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association
Mike has also provided consultancy services on export strategy development for the International Trade Centre and the Commonwealth Secretariat. He has represented the manufacturing sector on the Y2K Commission, and on a variety of local government and education bodies.
He has a BA Hons (First Class) in History (Otago) and a Diploma in Journalism (Canterbury). He is an Associate Fellow of NZIM.
